Wild Moon Morris

Wild Moon Morris is an English Morris dance group from GLASTONBURY and is affiliated with the English Morris Federation. It is a group in which 95% of the dancers are female. It was founded in May 2023 by 3 women to be a performance group that maintains the tradition of Morris dancing whilst anchoring our performances in the folklore traditions of Somerset, Glastonbury and the mystical Isle of Avalon. Our first dance was at the “Day of Dance” in Bath on 7th October 2023, where we were well received and described as "Druid meets Goth, meets Steampunk". 2024 was our first full season where we performed at 31 events in the South West of England (14 Folk Festivals-dance days, 13 pubs and 4 other events) and introduced 3 new Morris dances (Labyrinth, Ebb and Flow and Annwyn) some of the which are now being danced by other groups as well. We have a further 9 dances in development that seek to push the boundaries of the Border Morris tradition and promote our folklore, women and culture. Testimonials have been very positive, with articles in SomersetLife https://www.greatbritishlife.co.uk/magazines/somerset/24109199.preserving-tradition-somerset-female-morris-dancers/ the latest testimony on social media (24 of November) said: "One day of Morris Dancing is enough to brighten up a cold, gray day. Tavistock's PudseyDay of Dance is not I was really pleased to finally see in person some of the groups I've been trying to photograph, including the wonderful Wild Moon Morris from Glastonbury. They were quick and energetic, as well as completely precise in their movements and footwork. , and even more so because I was constantly amazed by their performance. Wild indeed, as only a Glastonbury group can be.'
